GENESIS:

GANGOTREE SOCIAL ORGANISATION is a non-governmental social development organization established by a group of dedicated development activists. Their aim is to extend the benefits of development to the needy, particularly focusing on tribal communities. The organization has successfully operated in this field, addressing various aspects of welfare and development, and has gained recognition for its efforts. It is registered under the societies Registration Act of 1860 as a non-profit, non-political entity.
There is a strong sense of commitment, dedication, and enthusiasm among the members, who are eager to provide assistance to those in need. GANGOTREE SOCIAL ORGANISATION has conducted various programs, actively involving the local community, with a special emphasis on tribal areas and individuals facing challenges. The organization has well-defined Bye-laws and a memorandum of Association, along with a General Body and Governing Body, to enhance transparency and functionality.
Since its inception, the Organization has effectively executed diverse activities in line with its mission: "To enhance the quality of life by intervening in areas related to health and livelihood, with a special focus on empowering women and ensuring proper child care in the community. This is aimed at achieving sustainable development and establishing a new socio-economic order where the poor and women have equal opportunities, guided by the values of sustainable development, global common good, and compassion for the weaker sections of society."
The registered headquarters is located at Plot No. 156/2794, At/Po—Sisupalgarh, Gyatri vihar, Old-Town, Bhubaneswar, in the district of Khurda. Additionally, there are field offices at Pritipur—Alakunda, District- Jajpur, and in the K.B.K. district. Gangotree Social Organisation operates in both costal and tribal areas of Odisha, working closely with Dalits and other socially and economically disadvantaged groups.
The organization collaborates with its intended partners to integrate them into the mainstream of the development process. This involves addressing critical issues such as poverty, environmental development, and reproductive and child health (RCH), as well as ensuring community participation to safeguard their rights and entitlements.

The organization's goal is to establish a facilitative process that enables people to empower themselves.

Gangotree Social Organization has set its mission towards sustainable habitat and human development and to bring changes in the quality of life of the poor through participation and people's organization.

- The organization aims to enhance the knowledge, skills, and practices of development partners, enabling them to actively engage in the development process and identify the means to lead a dignified life.
- Additionally, it strives to diminish gender bias and discrimination, providing women from underprivileged sections with equal opportunities to fulfill their needs, necessities, and socio-economic development goals.
- To overcome obstacles in the empowerment process, a gender-responsive participatory approach is adopted to address pertinent issues. This includes tackling the root causes of women's powerlessness, poverty, as well as women's and environmental development concerns, in collaboration with the Government, Civil Society, and NGOs. The ultimate goal is to improve the quality of life for all stakeholders involved
